Leather Tapered Belts

Our Custom Tapered Belts are hand made using high quality leather and buckles. They are made in the U.S.A per your specifications. You can build and order your belt from the available features listed at the bottom of this page.   Above is a black leather tapered belt made with harness leather with black edge stitching and buckle set #15.  The belt width is 1.5" with a 3/4" taper.  Next is a medium brown bridle leather with medium brown stitching and stainless steel buckle.  The belt width is 1-1/4" with a 3/4" taper.

Tapered Belts are cut from 9-10 oz (9/64"-5/32" wide) top grain, oak tanned harness leather or 10-12 oz bridle leather. Harness leather belts are hand dyed and finished. The back of the harness leather belts can be left natural, or non-dyed and sealed. Bridle leather is dyed and finished at the tannery. The edges of all belts are beveled, burnished and dyed.

You can order tapered belts 1-1/4" wide tapered down to 3/4" or 1"; 1-1/2" wide, tapered to 3/4", 1" or 1-1/4"; and 1-3/4" tapered to 3/4", 1" or 1-1/4". Each end of the belt is tapered.

Below is a black harness 1-1/4" wide belt tapered to 1" with the #11 buckle set.

Above is a dark brown bridle belt 1-1/2" wide with a 1" taper shown with buckle #17.2. 

Above is a 1-1/2" wide medium brown harness leather belt tapered to 3/4". This tapered leather belt includes brown edge stitching and the basketweave embossing. Customer supplied the buckle set. I think this belt would also look nice with black stitching.

A 1-1/4" wide belt that is ordered with edge groove or edge stitching has a different basketweave pattern in order to fit the width properly. You can view a picture of the pattern here.

Above is a 1.5" wide belt tapered to 1".  Made with English medium brown bridle leather with black edge stitching, one keeper loop and the #18.3 brass buckle.

Above is a 1.25" wide belt tapered to .75".  Made with English black bridle leather with black edge stitching, and buckle set #12. 

Belt Colors and Leather Available for Tapered Belts

Harness Leather Colors:

When hand staining leather every piece is different. It is like staining wood. Variations in color happens because the grain density varies and the dye is absorbed differently throughout the belt. The colors shown below are as close to the true colors as I can get. Colors shown below (left to right) is natural, tan, light brown, medium brown, dark brown and black.

Bridle Leather Colors:

Bridle leather colors are tan, chestnut, medium brown, British medium brown, dark brown and black.  Please note that British Brown Bridle leather normally is thicker than the other bridle leathers and can be as thick as 1/4". It is also firmer than the other Bridle leathers.

Belt Back Finish:

The back of harness leather tapered belts can be left Natural, Sealed with a clear sealer to make it smooth, or dyed the color of the belt and then sealed. For Black belts we recommend an un-dyed sealed back.

Bridle leather is dyed and finished on both sides at the tannery.

Are you ordering a tapered belt for your buckle set?  If so, I recommend sending the buckle set to us.   That way, we can ensure your set fits and functions properly to your new custom leather belt.   There is no standard dimension for buckle sets, which come in all shapes and sizes.   The belt needs to be made based on the set dimensions.   Once the belt is finished and the edges stitched, it is nearly impossible to adjust the belt, and this needs to be done during the production process.  Please get in touch with my office if you would like to send us your buckle set. https://www.custom-leather-belts.com/contact_us.html   We will forward you the shipping address.

Belt Measurement:

When ordering tapered belts I will need your "Center Hole Length (CHL)and not the Overall length. Don't worry about Overall length, I need Center Hole Length. To Determine the Center Hole Length when ordering a belt with or without a buckle see Determining Your Belt Measurement page.  It is extremely important to provide me with your correct belt measure. I cannot accept returns for belts that are too big or small if the wrong measurement is provided. So please take the time to measure before ordering.

DO NOT go by a number printed on the back of your belt. Other manufacturers numbers may vary and your belt may have stretched with use if you are ready for a new one.

Note: If a belt is being ordered without a buckle and you have belt keeper/s that you are planning to add to the belt, you must select one or two keepers when ordering so we know to design the belt with fasteners (e.g., Chicago screws, snaps, etc.) for one or two keepers.
